Unlicensed Commercial Alcohol Manufacturing Operation Seized in Milton

Department of Liquor and Lottery Leads Investigation

May 23, 2024—The Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery (DLL) Office of Compliance and Enforcement received a tip from the Milton Police Department (MPD) that originated from a concerned parent who advised MPD that alcoholic products from an unlicensed alcohol manufacturing operation were being sold to persons under 21 years of age out of a house on Bradley Street in Milton, VT.

The investigation revealed that a resident at the address, Alexander Fenton, age 27, was making and selling alcoholic beverages to others, including individuals under the age of 21. DLL Investigators applied for and were granted a search warrant, which was subsequently served at the residence. During the service of the warrant, over 70 gallons of manufactured alcohol and three manufacturing apparatuses were located and seized (photo included below).

Fenton was issued a citation to appear in court at a later date to answer for the charges of furnishing alcohol to minors, and illegally manufacturing and possessing alcoholic beverages.

The Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery would like to remind the public that while the homemade manufacturing of certain quantities of beer and wine is legal, the distillation of moonshine and other spirituous liquors is illegal without a manufacturing license. Additionally, all manufacturing apparatuses (“stills”) are illegal for possession in VT without licensure and federal registration through the Federal Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB).
