MOBILE SPORTS WAGERING GOES LIVE JANUARY 11, 2024
Berlin, Vt. – Beginning midnight on January 11, 2024, Vermonters will be able to legally bet via online sportsbooks DraftKings, FanDuel and Fanatics Sportsbook.
In June 2024, Governor Scott signed Act 63 into law which legalized online sports wagering in Vermont. Through a competitive bid process, the Department of Liquor and Lottery selected DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics Sportsbook to operate their mobile sports wagering apps in the state.
“We are pleased to have selected three of the industry’s top companies to offer Vermonters and visitors the opportunity to engage in mobile sports wagering in a fun and safe regulatory environment,” said Wendy Knight, Commissioner of the Department of Liquor and Lottery.
The launch of online sports wagering on January 11th allows sports enthusiasts to legally wager in time for the NFL Playoffs that begin on January 13, 2024 and Super Bowl LVIII on February 11, 2024. Players will be able to wager on hundreds of international professional and collegiate sporting events sanctioned by governing bodies.
The State anticipates receiving up to $7M in new revenue during the first full year of operations from online sportsbook operation and between $15M-$18M annually as the Vermont market matures.
The regulatory framework for mobile sports wagering creates important safeguards and consumer protections for players and a dedicated source of funding for problem gambling. Customers must be 21 years of age or older to wager in Vermont and cannot fund their player accounts with credit cards.
